5 Tips for Stress-Free Meal Prep

It’s undeniable, meal prep is a crucial component to a healthy lifestyle.

Why?

  1. You have no idea what you’re eating when you eat out. Even some of the healthiest restaurants use sub-par ingredients to save cash. On the other hand, when your meals are made at home, you know what you’re having and can ensure you use the best ingredients possible.
  2. Pre-prepared meals decreases the possibility you’ll be hovering over pizza on your way home from work one evening. If you know you have good food ready for you at home, you’ll be much more likely to sit down and have a healthy dinner instead.

So, how do you go about meal prep without it becoming yet another stressor to add to your list?

It may take a little time to get used to, but we promise that if you use these simple meal prep tips, in a few weeks you’ll be in and out of the kitchen quicker than you ever expected.

Tip 1: PLAN YOUR MENU FOR THE WEEK

Write out a plan of what you’ll be having for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the entire week.

Tip 2: MAKE A LIST

From this meal plan, you can now make a shopping list. List out all the ingredients you’ll need to prepare meals and snacks on the plan.

GO SHOPPING

Invest a couple hours each week to go shopping. Take your time to find the healthiest ingredients, and choose organic options as much as possible.

Tip 3: PRE-WASH & PRE-COOK

To ensure your food remains fresh, prep for the first three days of the week to begin with. By mid-week you can prep your meals for the remaining three to four days of the week.

Pre-wash salad greens so your salad is an easy, grab-and-go. Also, season and pre-cook your protein (stick to lighter meat options, like fish, chicken and beans), and cook your complex carbohydrates (sweet potato, quinoa, yams, etc.)

Tip 4: PRE-MAKE SALAD DRESSINGS & TOPPINGS

Cut up your salad toppings and pop them in the fridge so you won’t need to be dicing anything for a few days.

Also, whip up a couple all-natural salad dressing options so you can stay away from the processed store bought versions.

Tip 5: PRE-PORTION

Pour out single portions of soups, and pop them in the freezer so that when you’re ready, you can heat them up on the stove quickly. Do the same for smoothies… Put all your smoothie ingredients in single serve packages, freeze them, and when you’re ready, throw them in the blender and consume!

Remember, the food you eat is critical to your health, ability to work, care for yourself and your loved ones, and enjoy life. Investing time in meal prep is worth it, because nothing is more important than your health!
